If you are seeking happiness by synthetically altering your state, or you are seeking stress relief by altering your state with drugs, food or alcohol; than you are not actually relieving, nor escaping stress.
You are running from it, prolonging it and multiplying it.
You will always be chasing happiness if this pattern continues. Happiness can not be caught, but stress can be managed in healthy ways.
When your stress is managed, you will quickly find happiness takes it’s place.
Happiness and Stress are inversely correlated.
If I were to ask you to rate your stress on a 10 scale, you answer that you are at about a level of 7 in stress. I would predict that you are not experiencing much happiness, so around a 3. I believe Stress plus Happiness equals 10.
If we can push your stress levels down to a 2, your happiness will climb to an 8. This stress management stuff is not always fun, but it has such a big payoff if we stick with it.
Stress Management should be worked into our daily routines if we want to see it’s biggest impact.
I am often on the road, so I have to creatively find a way to get in a daily 2 mile walk or hike.
Sometimes, I walk around the city, the hotel, on the treadmill if it is raining; but ultimately aim to get my walks outside in nature. This has a dual benefit when it comes to stress management.
Walking is one of my personal favorite ways to manage my own stress, but I want you to know that there are tons of other really effective ways that may fit you just as well.
If you’re coping with stress in negative ways… if you are burnt out… if you can’t seem to find happiness. I invite you to try out a few different stress management techniques and see what fits your life the best.
